My recent UTI
I am here to report my results of my recent UTI episode. So to summarize my history for those who have not been following, after years of battling with IC, I decided to do a water fast in December that pushed me into remission from IC and all UTI’s. Then last week, another UTI came upon me. This was after a period of heightened stress from family drama, school and re-introducing foods I should not have, particularly peanuts, conventional beef, and chicken (I know, stupid!) I also noticed other symptoms such as swelling in my calves, my hair falling out, and fatigue! Definitely a total body phenomenon!
So my UTI went pretty haywire. I realize that this was triggered by something in my immune system, because around the same time this happened, I began having some strange nerve pain in my temple radiating into my brain and in my ear. After doing research, I learned I now have a chronic migraine that is affecting my supraorbital or trigemial nerve. This is all inflammatory driven….
So before I got into detail on what I have done so far to overcome the UTI and what I plan to do to overcome this inflammation, I want to explain a few things. Almost every single inflammatory driven symptom you experience can be traced back to an imbalance in your immune system. Often times, this is caused by leaky gut, which can cause subsequent translocation of bacteria and other pathogens into your system, increasing inflammatory cytokines, and interfering with the function of your immune system. Also, since 80% of your immune system is generated in your gut, if your gut is not healthy, neither is your immune system. This makes you more susceptible to infections, and a UTI is one of them.
Back to the UTI. When I realized the herbs were not cutting it this time, I took 3 doses of Macrobid. Before you gasp, I believe antibiotics have their place sometimes. Keep in mind, I also did not follow the antibiotic dose of 100mg 2x a day. I instead took half a dose, and took it with the herbal antibiotics. My theory is that the infection was too strong for just the herbals to do the job alone, and I needed to reduce the bacterial load to get my immune system to catch up. Once I got the infection under control, I discontinued the antibiotics and continued with the herbal antibiotics and all seems well. The headache…. I still have and it comes and goes…which I know is probably inflammation. Since I am doing a big water fast in 2 weeks, I am hoping some of that resolves at that time.
So that’s it so far….I plan to write more next week when I start the water fast. Looking forward to an other immune reboot!
